Ultra-marathon cycling has become an effective platform to share my passion to help the the orphaned and abandoned children. My most recent event was RAAM, Race Across America. Here are a few examples of what a presentation could include. Any presentation would include pictures (power point) and, if time allowed, a very effective 15 min DVD about Mully Children's Family. Presentation length could vary from 15 minutes to 45 minutes (plus questions?). I have all my own equipment, so location is flexible. Presentation: (sample)Historical data states that only about 50% of us would reach Annapolis within the allowed time of 12 days. The temperature in the Mojave desert soared to well over 40 degrees Celsius, resulting in severe cramping in both legs and hands. Processing of much needed calories was not possible under those conditions. We were only six hours into day one of a 12-day race. Welcome to RAAM. Welcome to a crash course in learning to cope with adversity. Quitting is not an option...RAAM, Race Across America is a single stage 5000 km coast to coast bike race across the USA. It is known as the world's toughest bike race (www.raceacrossamerica.org). By day six, my neck muscles could no longer hold my head up. I could not see the road in front of me without propping up my head. An ingenious brace built out of PVC tubing by my crew (my family) helped hold my head up for five more days of racing. Quitting is not an option...Despite severe sleep deprivation (I averaged 2 hours and 15 min every 24 hours) I reached the east coast in 11 days, 3 hours and 19 minutes, 10th overall and first in my category (ages 50 to 59). We raised $215,000.00 for orphaned and abandoned street children rescued by Mully Children's Family.Charles Mulli was one of those abandoned kids. He became a wealthy businessman but gave it all up to go back into the streets where he came from and offer hope to those that have none. Today he is a father to 2000 former street kids, with another 3000 having already been equipped to become contributing members of the Kenyan society. See www.mullychildrensfamily.org or www.mcfcf.ca. Quitting is not an option......In 2005 I transported three teenagers from MCF across Canada (www.spoke2005.com). As part of our mission representing poverty I carried a picture of a little girl named Charity with me. Two attempts had been made on her life by her own mother before she was a couple of months old. This was just another picture of a child in need, the kind we make go away by changing the channel or flipping the page in a magazine or newspaper. In November of 2006 my wife Ruth and I visited MCF and sat in on one of the evening programs. A little girl jumped on my lap. She sat and played with my white fingers. It happened to be Charity. I had carried her picture for 30 days and 7000km across Canada. Now she sat on my lap for 30 minutes. It was at that time a picture of a child in need became a real person. God removed the wall of indifference with which I had surrounded myself. I am so thankful that God opened my eyes to see past the picture to see the child. He also removed the fabricated belief that the problem is so big, that my efforts don't matter. They matter to Charity, they matter to the hundreds and thousands who have been rescued by Mully Children's Family. My message is simple: When you see a picture of a destitute child, allow God to show you the child instead of the picture. When that happens, the actions required to make life-changing transformation happen will follow. They have for me.My own story, shared in a way to promote the Charles Mulli story seems to be an effective, inspirational, as well as challenging topic for all ages. Thank you,Arvid Loewen 204-996-8758info@spokeimpact.com...because it matters to this one...Quitting is not an option .... when God has called you to help care for the destitute, orphaned and abandoned children rescued by Mully Children's Family. |
